Louisville Fourth of July Events 2009

By Jessica Elliott, About.com

You can only have so much fun with sparklers. Since Kentucky laws regulate the sale of fireworks so heavily, you may want to make plans to visit a Louisville Fourth of July event rather than planning your own backyard party. Instead of trying to smuggle fireworks across the Indiana border again this year, consider enjoying the fireworks at one of these professionally-designed local fireworks shows.

Waterfront Independence Festival

Waterfront Park will host fireworks over the Ohio River this year on both Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th. The show can bee seen from both sides of the river, but Waterfront Park will host live bands, Radio Disney, and inflatable games for kids. This is a free event.

Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July

Crescent Hill residents will want to stick close to home on the Fourth of July in order to experience the 26th Annual Crescent Hill Old-Fashioned Fourth of July. This event will take place on July 4th and 5th and will feature a variety of activities for the whole family. This event is free and held on the grounds of the majestic Peterson-Dumesnil House.

Fourth of July Bullitt Blast

Rather than driving over to the city, Bullitt County residents may want to stay around home this year for the Fourth of July Bullitt Blast. This day-long event features food, rides, music, and games for kids. The night ends with a fireworks show over Salt River. The Fourth of July Bullitt Blast is a free event.

Oldham County Freedom Celebration

Oldham County residents may want to hang around their own neighborhood for the Oldham County Freedom Celebration at Wendell Moore Park. This afternoon and evening event features pool games and park activities as well as a fireworks show. The Oldham County Freedom Celebration is a free event.

Kiwanis Fireworks Display

This free fireworks show held at the Old Capitol Golf Club rivals anything that explodes over the Ohio River. Bring a blanket and enjoy the evening of July 3rd with this huge fireworks display in Corydon, Indiana. The best part about this event is that it's not nearly as crowded as anything you'll find to do Fourth of July weekend in Louisville.
