Moving to a brand new city can be both exciting and terrifying. However, these resources should make your Louisville move pleasant, painless, and as easy as possible.

Tips for New Louisville Residents

Dress in layers. Avoid Spaghetti Junction during rush hour. Learn the correct pronunciation of Louisville (it's not what you think it is). There are a lot of things you're going to need to know as a new Louisville resident that will help you better transition to your new life as a Louisvillian.

Finding a Place to Live

Whether you're planning to jump in and buy a house or simply hoping to find a nice apartment to rent, you'll need to know the basics about Louisville's diverse neighborhoods before you can make a decision about which neighborhood best reflects your lifestyle and personality.

Louisville Licenses and Registration

As a new resident to either the state of Kentucky or the state of Indiana, there are a lot of licenses and registrations you'll need to apply for. You'll need to register your car, boat, truck, or motorcycle, you'll need to register your pets, you'll need to get a library card, and you'll need to get an updated driver's license.

Setting Up Your Utilities

Depending on where you live in Kentuckiana, you may have a choice of utility providers, or you may be forced to get service through the only cable, gas, electric, water, Internet, telephone, trash, or sewer company in your area. Every county has its own selection of utility providers.

Find a Source of Income

If you haven't moved to Louisville for a job, you'll need to either find work or some other source of income to provide for yourself in your new home.

Get to Know the City

Whether it's a free outdoor concert during the summer, the Kentucky Derby in the spring, or a heated college basketball game in the winter, there's always something fun going on just a few miles from every neighborhood.

If you still have questions about your Louisville move, feel free to ask them in the Louisville Forum. Many Louisville residents visit the forum to offer advice and engage in discussions and debates. You can also email your questions to me at louisville.guide@about.com.
