Resources for Finding an Apartment in Louisville KY

By Jessica Elliott, About.com

Whether you're new to the city, looking for your first apartment, or looking for a new apartment, finding an apartment in Louisville can be time consuming and stressful. However, if you know where to look, it will make the process of finding a place to call home much easier. The following tips will help you find the apartment of your dreams in Louisville.

Cruise the Neighborhoods

Not only will cruising Louisville's neighborhoods give you a good idea of where in the city you might like to live, it will also give you a huge advantage on finding an apartment for rent. At least fifty percent of the homes and apartments that are rented out in Louisville aren't advertised anywhere but in the front yard of the rentable building, especially in areas like The Highlands and Old Louisville. So, if you're interested in renting an apartment in Louisville, spend a day driving around the neighborhood you want to live in. Just make sure to bring a friend who can write down phone numbers for you.

Check the Local Newspapers

The local papers are a great place to look when you want to rent an apartment in Louisville. The Courier-Journal classifieds have the largest listing of ads, covering neighborhoods all across the city. If you're renting in New Albany, Clarksville, or Jeffersonville Indiana, then you'll want to check out the Jeffersonville Evening News and New Albany Tribune. If you want to live in the more rural areas of Indiana or Corydon, check the Corydon Democrat. For apartments in Old Louisville, the Highlands, and Crescent Hill, the Louisville Eccentric Observer has the largest listing of apartments for rent in these neighborhoods.

Louisville Online Classifieds

The great thing about looking for an apartment in Louisville on online classified ad websites is that a lot of them, like Louisville Craigslist, allow people to post ads for free. This means that many of the apartments and houses that aren't in the papers will end up online. Also, a lot of these sites allow people to post pictures of their apartment or house for rent. Some other great sites for finding apartments for rent in Louisville include Louisville Mojo and the Old Louisville Apartment Bulletin Board.

Grocery Stores

If you're looking to rent an apartment in an apartment complex rather than a house, then you'll want to stop by a local Kroger, Meijer, or Wal-mart and pick up an Apartment Guide. The Apartment Guide is free, and it lists most of the major complexes in Louisville. While Apartment Guide is the larger and more well-known, most of the local grocery stores also carry Renter's Guide and Apartment Finder.
