Review
After a day of shopping at the Summit Louisville, my husband and I stood on the curb and debated whether we wanted fish (Mitchell's) or Italian (Martini's) for lunch. Eventually, we agreed that we don't have as many opportunities to eat fresh fish as we do spaghetti, so we decided on Mitchell's.
Mitchell's Fish Market is a chain restaurant with only one establishment in Louisville -- the Summit location. Inside, the restaurant is open and cozy with dark woods and tall ceilings. The menu of fresh fish is extensive and changes by day and season. We had never eaten at Mitchell's before, and we were immediately impressed with what we encountered upon entering the restaurant.
Business was slow in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, so, unsurprisingly, our waiter was attentive and friendly. We started off the meal with an order of Kung Pao Fried Calamari. Calamari is one of our favorite eating-out treats, but I was disappointed to discover that our squid was flavorless and tough. While it certainly wasn't inedible, I would much rather eat the calamari at Baxter Avenue Station.
For entrees, I ordered the Garlic Broiled Shrimp and my husband chose the fresh Shang Hai Seafood Sampler. My shrimp was served with scallop mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The presentation was beautiful and the shrimp was amazing. Even better were my husband's scallops. As a huge lover of scallops, my husband can be very snobbish about their preparation, but he bragged that they were the best scallops he could ever remember eating.
Overall, we were very happy with the food and service at Mitchell's Fish Market. The prices were surprisingly reasonable considering the restaurant's location, especially for fresh fish, a rarity in this area. I'd definitely recommend any fish lover to try it out.
