If you're headed to Valhalla during the 2008 Ryder Cup, you're going to want to know what to expect for Ryder Cup parking and shuttle services (unless, of course, your tickets include parking at the course). Strict regulations are in place to prevent public parking at businesses and in private lots around Valhalla Golf Club, so don't assume that the local business owners won't have your car removed from their lot. There are two main choices for parking during Ryder Cup:
Park At Homes Around Valhalla
Many individuals who own homes and land around Valhalla Golf Course are selling parking spots during Ryder Cup week. Most of these spaces are going for $50 a day or $250 for the entire week. This will get you closer to the golf course and will prevent the need to have to take the shuttle, but officials have warned that if traffic becomes a problem on Shelbyville Road outside of Valhalla they might shut down pedestrian entrance. So, if you arrive early, it may be worth a shot to take a gamble and buy a parking spot in someone's yard, but keep in mind that you might end up wasting a lot of time and money if the entrance is closed and you have to turn around and go back to take the shuttle.
Take the Ryder Cup Shuttle
Your safest bet is to park at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center and take the shuttle into Valhalla Golf Club. The shuttle ride will last approximately 30 minutes, so you may want to bring a book or magazine to read while you're riding. Riding a shuttle for 30 minutes with a bunch of strangers might not be your ideal means of transportation, but it's safer and less expensive than parking in someone's yard. I shuttled in back when the Senior PGAs were at Valhalla, and it really wasn't as bad as it sounds.
