There are plenty of haunted houses in Louisville and surrounding counties. Jefferson county is full of opportunities to take the Halloween spirit to the max with haunted corn mazes, Danger Run, haunted hotels and even a spooked-out morgue. Willing to cross the river? Baxter Avenue Morgue

A morgue is creepy enough, but not for the staff at the Baxter Avenue Morgue. This 100-year old morgue is filled with frights every Halloween season. With an unmistakable cast of characters, many haunted house fans return to the Baxter Avenue Morgue year after year. General Admission is $20, the attractions is not recommended for children 12 and under.

Cobb's Haunt

No lights or flashlights are allowed in this attraction. An 11-acre haunted corn maze, Cobb's Haunt is open on Friday and Saturday nights. There are people working in the maze to spook and scare you, strobe lights are also used. They say the average time to complete the corn maze is 45 minutes. Of course, this depends on the group. Admission is $15 per person. The attraction is on the land of Sunny Acre's farm.

A unique haunted attraction, Danger Run is a driving game. At one of the three starting locations, all originating at a Lowe’s, one in Clarksville, IN, and two in Louisville, you are given a set of clues. Using these clues, you and a group of friends, all in your car,solve your way into 2 area haunted houses (admission to these attractions is included in the Danger Run fee). Part scavenger hunt, part spook, Danger Run is a bundle of Halloween fun. Danger Run is $18.95 per person and includes the game, haunted house admission, fangs and a food offer from DQ Grill & Chill. Plus, if you have four or more people in the car, $10 in gas from Speedway.

Haunted with classic monsters, and taking these childhood demons to a new level, Devil’s Attic is known as one of Louisville's frightening attraction. If you are a horror film purists, you may find the $17 per person admission price worth it.

Darkness Falls on Asylum

With haunted indoor and outdoor attractions, Darkness Falls on Asylum is one of the elements of Asylum Haunted Scream Park. There is a haunted house to tour and surrounding haunted woods. Be ready to walk. Pricing varies. For instance, Darkness Falls on Asylum is $20 but an All Access Pass is $35, which breaks down to less than $12 an attraction. It all depends on how long you want to be scared. Not enough to do? Well, they have paintball too.

Field of Screams

Field of Screams is a haunted corn maze within a six-acre cornfield. There is also a huanted barn and a Hayride to Hell at the attraction. Tickets go on sale at 7 p.m. and visitors enter the maze around 8 or 8:30 p.m. The maze is $20 per person.

Governor's Square Massacre

Open Friday and Saturday nights, from 7 p.m.-Midnight, the Governor’s Square Massacre is presented by the Shelbyville Fire Department. Featuring characters from popular horror movies, such as The Ring, Halloween, Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it is known to be scary and worth the drive out of the city. Tickets are $10.

Haunted Hotel

An institution on the Louisville haunted attraction scene, the Haunted Hotel has been frightening visitors for over two decades. Known for gore and disturbing seasons, the staff tries to top itself each year. It usually begins with an elevator ride to the 13th floor and gets progressively more frightening from there. Normal admission is $17, there are promotions on the website for discounts and more expensive VIP tickets.

Nightmare Forest

Nightmare Forest has multiple attractions; Nightmare Forest, Nightmare Harvest, the Trail of Terror, and the Nightmare Forest Drive-In. Featuring the monsters from favorite horror movies, such as Halloween and Nightmare on Elm St., and various undead characters, the attraction is original each year. New for 2013: A circus bizarre with fire eating, mind reading and more. Tickets vary in price.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium — Annual Haunted House

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a former tuberculosis hospital, is a famous Louisville spot. It often appearing on television shows featuring haunted sites and ghost stories. This reputation for paranormal activity makes it the ideal venue for a haunted house. Each year, the owners of Waverly Hills staff up and turn up the scare factor.
