Heaven and Hell Car was created by Kentucky native and current Athens, Georgia, resident Chris "Chub" Hubbard. Hubbard quit his job as a microbiologist and environmental consultant in 1998 to work as an artist. He now drives around the country to different fairs and special events selling different versions of the small wooden figures that are displayed on the Heaven and Hell Car.
