The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft was established in 1981 by Phyllis George Brown, former first lady of Kentucky and former Miss America. The museum was formed to support the extensive art and craft history of Kentucky through the exhibition of unique art, to educate and expose both children and adults to various art forms, and to offer monetary support to the artists displayed within the museum by selling their creations in the on-site retail gallery shop.
