Public schools have a lot going on these days. First, remember that Jefferson County Public Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. Here's the complete JCPS calendar for 2012-2013. If you are looking to entertain the kids, think about heading to a local library or taking a trip to the zoo. If you are in a situation where a family member who original planned to look after the kids is suddenly unavailable, check out the day camps at the Kentucky Science Center. They are ideal for kids who aren't already enrolled in a child care program.
Of course, if you haven't heard already, the Common Core test scores came back and were quite a disappointment. Hopefully, the less than stellar performance of JCPS will allow Louisville to pinpoint problems and improve them. The Courier-Journal has provided thorough coverage, including a list of how each school ranked.
Also, remember to vote on Tuesday. In addition to voting for national leadership, cast your vote for the next members for the JCPS school board. I blogged about the school board debates that took place in September. If you missed these, don't worry, WFPL posted a page with the full audio from the debates, along with a summary of where each candidate stands on key issues. Thanks WFPL!
