With many focused on the presidential election, it's easy to lose track of local politics. Parents take note: 15 contenders are competing for three available seats on the JCPS school board. In November, voters will elect new representatives for districts 2, 4 and 7. Here is a map of the districts.
As you may know, there have been many disagreements around choices to revise assignment plans. There are conflicting ideas on how to balance diversity with transportation travel times. While candidates agree that performance is a priority, individuals differ in their opinion of the current student assignment plan, some favor neighborhood schools over busing.
All of these debates will be hosted at the studios of WFPL, 619 S. Fourth St. Want to attend? Times and dates follow; arrive 15 minutes early to secure a seat. This election may be a tipping point in the future of JCPS.
