Over the last two weeks, I've been collecting receipts for the LIBA Holiday Passport Contest. Going through the list of LIBA businesses made me realize just how many local businesses I've never patronized. So, for the holiday season, I thought I would challenge myself to visit 30 local businesses over 30 days and write about my experiences at those businesses.
The business I patronized for day 5 was the Bluegrass Brewing Company. Unlike many people in Louisville, I don't really care for beer. I really prefer a good piņa colada or margarita instead. Still, if I was a beer drinker, I would definitely support local brewers like the Bluegrass Brewing Company.
Though I'm not a beer connoisseur, I do love food, so my recent trip to the BCC on Main Street (just across from the arena) was to sample the brewpub's menu. The basement establishment has a lot of background noise, but not so much that I felt I needed to scream for my husband to hear me like I do at other local nightlife spots. If it wasn't December, the outdoor seating would have been a nice escape from the bustle of the bar.
Our food at BBC was fantastic. We started the meal with a spinach and artichoke dip appetizer served with triangles of grilled pita bread. It was hearty and flavorful. In fact, I ate so much of it that I barely had room for my entree.
I'm glad I left some space in my stomach, though, because my fried fish was amazing--flaky and flavorful without the heaviness that sometimes goes along with ordering fried food. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, made with slices of cabbage, carrots, and broccoli. And though my french fries were just fries, they paired well with my fish and weren't too overdone or soggy.
I will definitely be back to BBC soon to try some more appetizers and entrees. If you're leaving the arena this winter looking for a place to eat, check out the BBC just across the street. You won't be disappointed.
