Support the Louisville Free Public Library

By now most of you have probably heard that the Louisville Free Public Library Main Branch suffered around five million dollars worth of damage in last week's flood and lost thousands of books (Photo Gallery). I'll admit that I'm a book nerd and the idea of so many ruined books makes me want to crawl under my bed and cry for a week, but even more than that, the LFPL Main Branch has been one of my favorite places in Louisville since high school. It's almost a guarantee if I can't find a book at the IU Southeast or UofL Library, I'll find it at the Main Branch.

So, I wanted to write a blog to let people know how they can donate to the LFPL Main Branch relief fund. There are several agencies collecting donations, but the one that has drawn my attention is the Library Society of the World. They are trying to raise $5000—a small amount toward the cost of repair—but are still far from their goal. If you've wanted to support the library in their attempt to rebuild, check it out. Every small amount helps.

I must add that if people were so inclined, they could go to the Bake Sale of Louisville’s own ConsumingLouisville.com on August 26 at Derby City Espresso 5PM-8:30PM. Derby City Expresso will donate $1 from drinks sold during the bake sale will be donated to the library and every penny made at the bake sale will be going to The Library Foundation.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve not been keeping up with my RSS Feeds lately and didn’t know about the bake sale, but that’s definitely a worthwhile thing to contribute to as well.
