I Heart Louisville

Wednesday March 4, 2009
Last night I finally opened a Twitter account and was browsing the postings over at the Possibility City feed when I found a link to the National Geographic Traveler website where they're requesting that people fill out a fun questionnaire about their cities. Since I really do <3 Louisville, I filled out a questionnaire of my own, and I hope all of you will do the same. In fact, if you send yours to me (louisville.guide@about.com), I'll post it here to share with everyone. Read on to see my answers to the questionnaire (answers in bold):

My City Questionnaire

Louisville is My City

The first place I take a visitor from out of town is Churchill Downs (on a weekday).

When I crave sushi I always go to Raw Sushi Lounge.

To escape capitalism I head out to the First Friday Trolley Hop.

If I want to wander through an art museum at midnight I go to the 21C Museum Hotel.

For complete quiet, I can hide away in Cherokee Park.

If you come to my city, get your picture taken with Colonel Sanders' grave.

If you have to order one thing off the menu from Bristol Bar and Grille it has to be Artichoke Fritters.

Ear X-Tacy is my one-stop shop for great CDs.

Locals know to skip Fourth Street Live and check out Bardstown Road instead.

When I'm feeling cash-strapped I go to Book and Music Exchange.

For a huge splurge I go to the English Grill at the Brown Hotel.

Photo ops in my city include the 120 ft. tall Louisville Slugger Museum bat and the best vantage points are around the museum on Main Street.

If my city were a celebrity it'd be Johnny Depp (brilliant but a little weird).

The most random thing about my city is that 90% of the disco balls in the U.S. are made in Louisville.

My city has the most innovative men.

My city has the most independent women.

In my city, an active day outdoors involves running, swimming, and biking the Ironman Louisvile triathlon or running the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon.

My city's best museum is the Speed Art Museum.

My favorite jogging/walking route is the Cherokee Park pedestrian loop.

For a night of dancing, go to Main Street Lounge. Or, for live music, check out Phoenix Hill Tavern.

Spinelli's Pizzeria is the spot for late-night eats.

To find out what's going on at night and on the weeknds, read the LEO.

You can tell a lot about my city from the Louisville Independent Business Alliance "Keep Louisville Weird" campaign.

You can tell if someone is from my city if you find yourself thinking that he/she is the coolest person you've ever met.

In the spring you should go to the Kentucky Derby, of course.

In the summer you should go to a free concert at Waterfront Park.

In the fall you should do the First Friday and F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hops.

In the winter you should head up to Paoli Peaks for skiing.

A hidden gem in my city is La Rosita Mexican Restaurant in New Albany.

For a great breakfast joint try Lynn's Paradise Café.

Don't miss the Kentucky Derby festival in April.

Just outside my city, you can visit Corydon, Indiana's first capitol.

The best way to see my city is from the top of Iroquois Park.

If my city were a pet it would be a chimpanzee (unique and unpredictable).

If I didn't live in a city, I'd live (where?) just outside of a city.

The best book about my city is …? (Why can I not think of any good books that were written about Louisville? Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas devotes its first chapter to life in Louisville, so I guess I'll go with that).

When I think about my city, the song that comes to mind is the Happy Birthday song.

If you have kids, you won't want to miss Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.

Multimillionaires and hippies sharing shots at a bar could only happen in my city.

My city should be featured on your cover or website because it is a fantastic, interesting place that is usually only recognized when talking about the Kentucky Derby.

Never lived in a city where “Where did you go to high school? Trinity or St X?” meant so much.

Freakability City!
