Wicked at the Kentucky Center 1/7/09 - 2/1/09

Monday January 5, 2009
I few years back I tried to read Wicked as the book of the month for a book club I was participating in. I just couldn't get into it. I wanted to – I'd heard so much praise about the story from all kinds of different people – but I just never really got into it. And I wasn't the only one. I think out of my entire book club only one person was able to finish the book.

Still, people are so terribly excited about the show coming to Louisville this month that I wonder if the draw of the story stems from the Broadway performance rather than the book. If you want to know more about Wicked, Judith Egerton has a compelling write-up about it in last weekend's Courier-Journal.

Tickets are still available if you want to catch a performance (Purchase Tickets) – I was able to buy tickets this morning for opening night. If you're looking for tickets but don't want to spend a ton of money, there's an interesting post over at Louisville.com about a lottery that is being held each night before the performance where tickets will be sold for $25 each to the lucky people whose names are drawn in the lottery.

I just finished the book and yes, it was hard to get into. It took awhile to finish. About half way through it begins to roll. I kept at it because I am going to the play. It did take awhile to read but was worth it. I have heard the play is much better than the book. I am glad I have the background from the book. I think I will enjoy and understand the play better. It is av ery interesting story and outcome if you just stick with it.

We went to the show last night and it was AMAZING. I can’t not read the book after watching that performance. It’s good to know that the book gets better though. If it follows the storyline of the musical (and I assume it must), it has to be good.
