Yesterday morning I was over at Avalon's website getting some information in order to add them to my list of Highlands' restaurants, and I happened to notice that they are offering a holiday special where you can buy a $100 gift card for only $75. I thought that was a pretty sweet deal. For $25, you could choose from six different bottles of wine or four main entrees. You could get two appetizers, two sandwiches, or two desserts. If you ate smartly, that extra $25 could equate to a free lunch or dinner for two people.If you know of any similar deals that are being offered at local restaurants, send them to me at louisville.guide@about.com, and I'll post them for everyone else to see.

My wife and I ate at Avalon for our anniversary last year. The price range definitely sets it off in “special occasion” territory, but our food was amazing – her scallops, especially.
