Jessica's Louisville BlogBeware New Interstate Robbery SchemeLast week, I received the same email several times describing a new form of robbery that was occurring on the interstates in Louisville. My first thought was that it was just another email forward scam, but, just in case it was legitimate, I contacted the LMPD with a copy of the email. An official from the LMPD responded, stating that "The LMPD is currently investigating the validity of this incident. Yes, it was reported three hours after the incident took place, but only one incident was reported."
The email in question describes two attacks, not one as the LMPD has reported, and is detailed below: Attack #1: Please be careful and vigilant! My niece works at Z Salon just around the corner. She was on her way to work yesterday morning around 9:00 a.m. on Shelbyville Road when the car in front of her suddenly stopped. She slammed on her brakes and was jerked in her seat. She looked up and there was a man behind her car pointing a gun at her. He had been in the car behind her. He and the car in front of her were working together. They took her purse and told her not to call the police as they now know where she lives. She went to work in shock...clocked in and started to work on her first customer before it all hit her. She called her husband and the police. Attack #2: Yesterday morning a co worker of my wife was robbed at gun point on the Watterson Expressway. She was east bound between Taylorsville road and Breckinridge lane in the right lane when the car in front slammed on his brakes causing her to do so. She made light contact with his car then a second car skidded to a stop just shy of her back bumper. The driver of the first car got out and ran back to her car placed a gun in her face and demanded her money so she complied. He then ran back to his car and he and the second car that was behind her took off. She drives a KIA so it is not like she appeared to be wealthy so they will hit anyone. I hope this is only happening because of someone in town for Derby but please share this with your friends and family. Honestly I don't know what you could do different in this situation (she did the right thing) but maybe females should keep their money separate from there wallets so they get money not your purse and all your info. They now have her wallet id and everything else in her purse. Regardless of whether or not these accounts signify a recurring method of robbery, it's best that everyone is aware of the possibility of being robbed in this manner. While there's not a lot you can do, the second email offers a great suggestion -- keep your personal information separate from your money. Leave it in your glove box or somewhere else, just keep it out of your purse or wallet. Make copies of the front and back of all of your cards just in case they are lost or stolen. This will quicken the process of cancelling them and preventing identity theft. I wanted to pass this information along to you, and I hope you will pass it to your friends and loved ones. If this is a new interstate robbery scheme, widespread knowledge of it could curb it from the start. Friday May 9, 2008 | comments (1) Display Latest Headlines | powered by WordPress |
