Thunder Over Louisville in Hindsight

Tuesday April 15, 2008
Kentucky Derby Festival officials decided to move Thunder Over Louisville up a week this year because the time slot that is traditionally allotted to the fireworks and air show – the Saturday two weeks before the Kentucky Derby – fell on the same day as Passover this year. So, this year Thunder was held three weeks before the Kentucky Derby instead of two weeks before it.

However, the weather was awful for Thunder last weekend, and turnout for the show was pretty poor compared to what was expected. But, the forecast for this weekend, on the other hand, is for warm weather with only a small chance of rain. This has left many people wishing that Thunder hadn't been moved up a week. Do you think it was appropriate to have Thunder a week early, or do you think the date shouldn't have changed? Why?

April is a month you just can’t count on whenit comes to weather. I was stoked to go to Thunder…until I learned penguines were staying home due to the cold. Screw that, I’ll watch the lame Fox coverage while I sit on my butt and chew my toenails.
