Actually, Clarksville is in Southern Indiana, though I don’t suppose you would know that if you weren’t from this area. Thanks for pointing out my omission!

Planning on going to Buckhead Mountain Grill for 2008 Thunder. Are there any reasons to avoid this place? Is it easy to get over to the KY side to do things during the day? Can you walk across the bridges or just by car?

Hi Mike,

Buckhead Mountain Grill is a great place to see Thunder Over Louisville - you’ll be right under the fireworks show. Under normal circumstances you would be able to walk across the Second Street Bridge from Jeffersonville to Louisville, but they close it off for Thunder. The only other way to get across the river is to drive across the Kennedy Bridge (I-65).

The biggest crowd will be on the Louisville side, but there’s not really all that much to do over there during the day. There will be a lot of food vendors selling fair food, and there’s the Chow Wagon and Belvedere Beer Garden, but other than that you’re basically just waiting for the air show and fireworks regardless of what side of the bridge you’re on.

My suggestion would be to spend part of your day in downtown Jeffersonville. It’s a historic district with a lot of interesting, local shops. If you leave Buckhead’s and head to your right down Market Street, you’ll come to Spring Street after a few blocks. Spring Street is the place to go in Jeffersonville — they have a huge costume and party favor store (Horner Novelty), a bookstore, and a coffee shop, among other things.

Thanks for reading!

Hi Jessica - good article :)

I just wanted to point out that for those watching the show in Jeffersonville or Clarksville (Indiana).. the L(ouisville)M(etro)P(olice)D(ept) link does not list street closures for those cities.

BA BA BOOM!! I can’t wait! Have a great Thunderous Day! :)

Great point Joy! LMPD absolutely doesn’t list road closures for Southern Indiana. Here are the links for those closings:

For Thunder Over Louisville Road Closings in Clarksville, Indiana:

I’m really excited for the show as well. It sounds like it’s going to be soggy, but a little mud never kept me away from a great show. I hope you have a BLAST, pun intended ;)
