The other day I received an email from a reader who wanted to know what kinds of things are going on around town during Christmas break:
I really hope that you are planning to put together an entry on what to do with your kids over Christmas break in Louisville. Seems I always seem to hear about the free magic shows at IUS, free museum days, or free craft projects after the fact. I would really love to have some cheap or even free adventures mapped out in advance. I can only take so many Chuck E. Cheese visits and Disney movie days.

If you have a high school student at home who will be looking for a summer job in 2010, you may want to consider sending them to a Metro Parks Lifeguard Training session this winter. Individuals who commit to work as a lifeguard or assistant at a local park for one full season can take the classes for free. Pay for lifeguards and assistants is between $6-$7 an hour (Learn More).
If you're looking for a job, I'd suggest creating a Twitter account and following @LouisvilleJobs. On its feed, you can find numerous local job openings posted each day in a wide range of fields.

On weekdays from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. from now through December 18 and then January 4-29, the Louisville Zoo is offering $5 admission to anyone who donates a canned good at the ticket window. This will save you seven dollars on an adult ticket and four dollars on a child ticket. One canned good is required for each person who receives the discounted admission. This offer is to support Dare to Care, who notes that their most-needed items include tuna, beef stew, ravioli, corn, green beans, peaches, and pineapple.
